Tax concessions, subsidies and direct grants to the non charitable arms of religious organisations cost the taxpayer $31 billion dollars per year. This money would be better spent resurrecting our public schools or on helping the needy in our society.

These concessions and subsidies are a grossly irresponsible waste of tax money which is sanctioned by both major parties. By comparison it costs the tax payer 3 times as much as the new Minerals Resource Rent Tax will bring in each year.

The Secular Party of Australia made a submission to Australia’s Future Tax System Review in 2008 which itemises the estimated costs.
